Subject: Council Mtg/Referendum Tues Night
Date: January 27, 2014 1:39:52 PM PST
This is an update on the progress of the Referendum to put the Small Winery Amendment on the November ballot. There are currently 18 petitions circulating in St. Helena and we are nearing 300 signatures, gathered in less than a week! 320 signatures are required, with 400 recommended, but we will continue to collect signatures through next week to obtain an accurate sense of how deeply concerned people are about this new law. Please see the homepage here for links to further information and the map of all the parcels affected. Unless the Council calls a Special Meeting for discussion of this issue, tomorrow's meeting of the City Council, in the Public Forum section of the agenda, will be the only time for anyone to voice their opinion on this issue. So I urge people to attend the City Council meeting at Vintage Hall at 6 PM tomorrow, Tues., 1/28. Please arrive promptly since Public Forum comes up right after the meeting opens at 6 PM. This meeting is televised and may also be viewed live on the City's website . The best outcome would be for the Council to meet before the law goes into effect (30 days from Jan. 14) and rescind the amendments to the law, rather than keep the issue going until Nov. and then perhaps having to rescind it. Please continue to let friends and family know about the Petition and advise them to go to this Contact page to sign up to have someone meet them for their signatures. All of us working on this issue deeply appreciate the unprecedented turnout and support for allowing us all to vote for or against these changes to the Small Winery Ordinance. Thank you all! Sandy |
