Tomorrow, Tuesday, 6PM, Vintage Hall, the
City Council will consider the proposal by the Historical Society for a
museum on the Adams St. property near the Library. Makes sense and
would give our cultural life a much needed boost -- people want more to do
than glass lifting. But process is key. There exists a community
vision for the site, set aside from the General Plan, that has a list of
community serving uses in addition to a History Museum. All were
vetoed when the Council nixed the housing part -- 3 proposals were
rejected. If this is to go forward and it should, there needs to be
either a return to the original vision or a new vision developed. Everyone
should be involved. Here is the original Adams St. Vision Report. The City owns the
property.
Also on the Agenda for Tuesday, is the issue of a
surplus 1.5 million that the Council has generated. After a very
contentious fait accompli Budget meeting at the Firehouse last month,
community members are now being asked for their opinions on the allocation
of that surplus. As people who live here and experience daily issues (know
many city employees do not) it's a good time to voice your concerns,
so bring your list to the meeting! Remember that this money is not the
City's reserve. While that number varies with the meeting, it has already
been set aside.
Then note the boil-down of the Silicon Valley Bank's
2014 Wine Report from the view of local impact. Overall? It's stable short
term but big hopes ride on direct to consumer marketing (meaning more
tasting rooms & event centers). However, due to the recession,
lack of job growth, demographics and market competition, the future looks
iffy. Here is the full Report.
And lastly, sign of the times: Right now,
there are 17 empty houses in the 2 blocks of Scott St. -- coming to a block
near you? Please send in your Empty House Block Count (weekends&VRBO
don't count as full). Thanks.
