Tree Tunnel Support

The Tree Tunnel Petition gathered 276 signatures in a month in the fall of 2013. In December of 2013 CalTrans, the City tree crew and Beringers groomed the trees and we can look forward to a beautiful spring Tunnel. Please continue to advocate in support of the Tunnel -- especially during the months of Dec., Jan. and Feb. each year when they will need grooming; it's the only window during which it is healthy to prune the trees.

Please add your comments and suggestions about the problem below!

Just look at Chuck O'Rear's photo above. When the trees are groomed, driving through them is like experiencing an architectural wonder -- it's breath-taking. Now look at what they have become. Yes, they have Elm Disease and are being replaced but that's even more reason to maintain appearances during the process. They were maintained for over half a century, maybe longer. (For a piece of history and the meaning of the Tree Tunnel to St. Helena, read this short story by my Mom, Greta Ericson, when she was Mayor 1975 and the Tree Tunnel needed a rescue then too.
